Senate Declares Jimoh Ibrahim’s Seat Vacant

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, yesterday declared vacant the Ondo South Senatorial District seat.

Akpabio made the announcement during the plenary.

He stated that the development followed the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who hitherto occupied the seat, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a bye election in the next 30 days to fill the existing vacancy in line with extant laws.

Akpabio, therefore, directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to transmit the resolution of the Senate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for urgent action.
