Many Feared Dead As Explosion Rocks Kwara Community

…As bandits bomb bridge connecting Niger Community

Many people have been reportedly killed following a bomb explosion suspected to be orchestrated by bandits in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, in the early hours of yesterday.

According to sources, the bomb exploded when a commercial bus driver identified as Mallam Zunairu, from Wurumakoto Village in Kaiama, was conveying passengers from Woro Village to New Bussa in Niger State, ran into the planted explosive device. 

The bomb was suspected to have been planted by the same bandits that massacred over 200 people in the area early last month.

Over 170 abductees are still in capacity at time of this report by AljazirahNigeria newspapers.

Reports say the driver on motion ran on the planted bomb, which dismembered his body. 

Meanwhile, number of fatality and casualty is yet to be ascertained and people sustained serious injuries were rushed to  Hospital.

With full presence of security agencies and tactical team in Kaiama-Woro environment, the bandits have changed their modus operandi by planting bombs.

As at the time of filing this report, the full joint security operatives have moved to the scene and one other bomb had been disconnected by specialists from the Nigeria Army Base in Kaiama.

Efforts to reach public relations officer of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful as of press time.

However, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, although residents suspect the IED may have been detonated by members of Boko Haram.

In another development suspected bandits have bombed a bridge on Luma road, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities in Borgu Local Government area of Niger.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the incident occurred in the early hours yesterday, cutting off movement in the affected areas.

Sources said the Babanna major border market that holds every Monday was crippled due to the incident.

However, Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas of Niger have been under severe attacks by terrorists for several months.

Spokesman for Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the bombing of the bridge and said a clearance operation was ongoing.

According to him, the command on Tuesday at about 6:30 am, received a report about the incident.

“Suspected terrorists within the Park Forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities.

“It was discovered that the bridge was damaged by the hoodlums during security operations in the area.

“However, monitoring continues while clearance operation is intensified”, he said.
