Edo Govt Rescues Newborn, Assures Rehabilitation Of Mentally Challenged Mother

Edo State government has rescued a newly born baby boy from a mentally challenged woman who gave birth in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area in Edo Central Senatorial District.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Eugenia Abdallah stated this in Ubiaja at the weekend when she  visited  the local government council secretariat. 

Mrs Abdallah stated that protecting the rights and welfare of women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups remains a priority of the present administration.

She emphasised that government remains proactive and responsive, particularly in situations involving children who require urgent protection and care.

The commissioner disclosed that the newborn would be placed in a secure and nurturing environment where he will receive adequate medical attention, proper nutrition and developmental support to ensure a healthy start to life. 

She assured that the mother, who is currently roaming, will be located and taken to a rehabilitation facility, where she will receive comprehensive care, counselling and treatment aimed at stabilising her condition and facilitating her eventual reintegration into the society.

Mrs Abdallah also commended the leadership of the local government and the management of Central Hospital, Ubiaja for their swift response in providing immediate medical care to the baby and preventing the situation from escalating. 

In his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr Ernest Erebholo expressed his appreciation to the commissioner for her swift and decisive intervention. 

He praised her exceptional dedication and proactive leadership in protecting the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable citizens across the state, and  pledged continued collaboration with the ministry.

The commissioner ensured that the newborn baby was safely relocated from the hospital to a children’s home, where he would receive the necessary care and protection.
