Gov Yusuf Meets Tinubu Amid APC Defection Moves

kano

Sequel to his planned defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, yesterday, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Yusuf is the only governor on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.

Rumours of his planned defection to the APC has been making the rounds in recent times, with revelations that the attempt has met some brick walls with the state chapter of the the ruling party, over whether or not he would be given automatic 2027 ticket on the APC platform.

The Governor is also said to be seeking the authority to nominate a minister to represent Kano State in the Federal Executive Council, as well as the power to replace Kano-based federal appointees with his own loyalists.

These demands, according to party insiders, have placed Yusuf on a collision course with influential APC figures in Kano, particularly Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, who is believed to be nursing governorship ambition ahead of 2027.

Yusuf’s planned defection is also causing disaffection between his supporters and those of his political godfather, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The Governor, dressed in white ‘agbada’ and red cap, entered the Presidential Villa at about 4:10 pm.

Whereas details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately disclosed,

there are reports that meeting with President Tinubu might not be unconnected with the planned defection.
