The General Officer Commanding , GOC of 6 Division Nigerian Army, port harcourt, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has disclosed that the troops of Land Component has ensure zero incident of pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta Region in the last one year .
Major General Emekah made this known while briefing Defence Correspondents on the activities and operations of the land component during a media tour to the region .
He explained that from January 2025, up till now, no pipeline has been vandalized, noting that before January 2025, daily production stood at 1.5 million barrels/ day.
He added that after December 2025, increased to 2.2 million barrels/ day, a growth of 46.67%.
He said that stable production levels and consistent output have boosted Nigeria’s global competitiveness in the oil market .
While speaking on projection for 2026 and beyond, he stressed that the land component are putting more efforts in contributing to the federal government target of reaching 3 million barrels/ day by the end of 2026.
The GOC stated that the command will continue to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies in ensuring a unified approach in securing oil facilities.
While mentioning the challenges, he lamented that there is an issue of terrain complexity.
He said that Niger Delta remain one of the toughest environments for security operations .
Major General Emekah added that the environment dense mangroves, shallow creek and narrow waterways offer concealment for oil thieves, pirates and militants.
The Director Defence Media Operations, DDMO Major General Micheal Onoja in his remarks discussed the press’s role in holding the government accountable and their contributions to democracy.
He stated that the chief of defense staff is committed to transparency and accountability, adhering to section 22 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
He emphasized the importance of tactical actions at the operational and strategic levels , with every action having significant implications.
Major General Onoja commended the sacrifices of troops and other security stakeholders, particularly the police, in the fight against insecurity.
He described Niger Delta as a sensitive barrier to Nigeria’s national economy, producing resources that are crucial for the country’s stability.
The DDMO stressed the importance of resolving security issues in the Niger Delta to ensure the country’s economic well-being.
He called for complete cooperation with journalists, recognizing their constitutional role and the importance of mutual understanding.
