Race for the African crown has reached its defining moment as the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations enters the semi-final stage, with four continental heavyweights left standing and history waiting to be written.
Hosts Morocco will face an in-form Nigeria Super Eagles side, while seven-time champions Egypt lock horns with reigning champions Senegal in two blockbuster semi-final encounters scheduled for today.
As anticipation builds across the continent, renowned prediction platform AljazirahNigeria’s Octopus, famed for its near-perfect forecasting record, has boldly tipped Morocco and Senegal to advance to Sunday’s grand finale at the Rabat Stadium.
AljazirahNigeria Octopus has earned continental attention for its past predictions.
In 2022, it correctly picked Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Earlier, in 2021, it accurately forecast Senegal’s historic AFCON triumph over Egypt, a prediction that came to pass after a dramatic final decided on penalties.
With such credentials amongst several other 100% accurate predictions across sports and political circles, its latest prediction has added further intrigue to an already thrilling AFCON finale.
Africa’s biggest football spectacle has delivered quality, intensity, and star power, and the semi-final lineup underlines the tournament’s elite status. Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and Egypt powered through the quarter-finals to set up what promises to be a thrilling climax.
Egypt secured the semi-final ticket after edging defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3–2 in a pulsating contest that ended the Elephants’ reign.
The Pharaohs now face a resolute Senegalese side in Tangier, following Senegal’s composed 1–0 victory over Mali
Hosts Morocco continued their impressive home run with a commanding 2–0 win over Cameroon in Rabat, while Nigeria delivered a clinical display to dispatch Algeria 2–0 in Marrakech, setting up a mouthwatering clash with the Atlas Lions.
While AljazirahNigeria Octopus with a near 100% accuracy has confidently selected Morocco vs Senegal as the final pairing, opinion remains sharply divided.
Several pundits, fans, and betting platforms are backing a Nigeria vs Senegal showdown, citing the Super Eagles’ attacking depth, tournament pedigree, and growing momentum.
At the lower end of the favourites list sit Egypt and Nigeria, two historic powers that can never be fully ruled out. Egypt, the most successful nation in AFCON history, continue to thrive in knockout football despite an unconvincing group-stage showing.
Regardless of predictions, the margins are razor-thin, and all four nations carry strong credentials into the final stretch.
Morocco’s AFCON journey has long been a blend of promise and frustration. Champions in 1976 and runners-up in 2004, the Atlas Lions are chasing a first continental title in nearly 50 years.
Led by Achraf Hakimi, recently declared fit after injury, and inspired by Brahim Díaz, who has scored five goals in five matches, Morocco have arguably been the tournament’s most balanced side.
Backed by passionate home support and fresh from winning the FIFA Arab Cup 2025, the Atlas Lions appear primed for a historic run.
The hosts also boast an intimidating home record, having not lost a competitive match on Moroccan soil since 2009, a statistic that further strengthens belief among supporters.
Three-time champions Nigeria remain one of Africa’s most feared sides. Winners in 1980, 1994, and 2013, the Super Eagles boast a potent mix of experience and explosive talent.
With Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman leading the attack, Nigeria have shown tactical discipline, physical dominance, and clinical finishing. Regular FIFA World Cup qualifiers and perennial AFCON contenders, the Super Eagles are determined to halt Morocco’s fairytale run.
Senegal, champions in 2021, have firmly established themselves as a continental powerhouse since their breakthrough in the early 2000s. Led by Sadio Mané, they combine physical strength, technical finesse, and mental resilience.
Egypt, Africa’s most decorated nation with seven AFCON titles, remain dangerous under pressure. With Mohamed Salah orchestrating their attack, the Pharaohs are eyeing a record-extending triumph and another chapter of continental dominance.
The semi-finals will showcase Africa’s finest talents, many of them African Players of the Year, facing off in battles where club friendships are set aside for national pride.
From Osimhen and Lookman to Salah, Mané, Hakimi, and Díaz, the stage is set for football at its highest African level.
As the continent holds its breath, one thing is certain: any of these countries Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, or Egypt could be crowned AFCON champions on Sunday, January 16, 2026.
Weather AljazirahNigeria’s octopus will add another winning feather to its cap remains to be seen.
