Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen SUV In Nasarawa

Operatives of  Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen Toyota Prado Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, in Karu Local Government Area.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Chigozie Samuel, a resident of Auta Balefi in Karu, was arrested by officers attached to  Mararaba ‘B’ Division, following credible intelligence on the location of the stolen vehicle.

Confirming the arrest in a statement, the  Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel said preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel allegedly carried out the robbery alongside two accomplices who are currently at large.

The suspects were said to have attacked the driver of the vehicle at gunpoint at Wuse Bridge in Abuja, before escaping with the SUV.

The police spokesperson said operatives acted swiftly after receiving actionable information on the vehicle’s movement.

“Police operatives immediately launched a coordinated manhunt, which led to the tracing and interception of the stolen Toyota Prado behind the International Market, Karu,” he said.

Nansel added that the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the police, but one of them was successfully apprehended after a chase.

“Upon sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle made an attempt to escape. However, one of the suspects was chased and arrested, while others escaped,” Nansel stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the arrested suspect has since confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices.

Commending the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, the  Commissioner of Police, Shettima  Mohammed ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect and the recovered vehicle to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command for further investigation and necessary action.

The state police command reassured residents of its continued commitment to tackle criminal activities and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
