Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has advocated the enthronement of true federalism, describing it as a lasting solution to many  political and socio-economic challenges.

Governor Makinde made the call in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

According to him, the practice of true federalism would open doors for healthy competition among federating units, encourage development at the sub-national level and foster a more competitive and progressive society.

The Oyo State governor  urged political leaders across the country to embrace the spirit of healthy political competition, recalling the 1999 general election in the country when the late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu pitched tent with an opposition candidate.

He noted that the decision helped to deepen democracy and introduce a culture of constructive rivalry in the political space.

Governor Makinde emphasized that Nigeria’s growth and unity depend largely on leaders willingness to put national interest above personal and party considerations, while strengthening democratic institutions through true federalism.

The event featured a book launch, presentation of birthday cake and traditional dance.
