Prof. Victoria Ayishetu Enape, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership in appointing General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) as the new Minister of Defence, following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
In a statement issued to journalists, Enape described the President’s action as “strategic, timely, and deeply reflective of Nigeria’s evolving security needs.” She noted that the appointment marks a significant recalibration of the nation’s defence architecture.
According to her, President Tinubu has once again demonstrated “clarity of purpose and unwavering commitment to strengthening the territorial integrity of the nation,” by selecting General Musa—a former Chief of Defence Staff and Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai—with decades of operational and policy experience.
She highlighted Musa’s achievements in counter-terrorism, inter-agency coordination, and rights-based security management, stressing that his leadership comes at a critical time when insecurity requires fresh strategies, stronger synergy, and restored public confidence.
Enape also commended the resignation of former Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, describing it as “an act of democratic accountability and leadership maturity,” which has paved the way for renewed energy within the Ministry of Defence.
“With General Musa at the helm, Nigeria can expect enhanced defence reforms, improved military welfare, strengthened international partnerships, and deeper cooperation among security agencies,” she stated.
She further described the appointment as more than an administrative shift, calling it “a statement of hope and a reaffirmation of the President’s commitment to securing every inch of Nigeria.”
General Musa, she added, embodies leadership forged through frontline experience and dedication to national unity. His transition into the Defence Ministry, she said, signals a new era of intelligence-driven operations, heightened morale within the armed forces, and a stronger national resolve against insecurity.
Enape concluded with an optimistic message to citizens across the country, assuring them that “a brighter security horizon is emerging, a stronger defence posture is unfolding, and Nigeria is rising towards a safer and more united future.”
