Yobe State government in collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, has flagged off a capacity-building workshop for directors in the state civil service, aimed at strengthening ethical standards, transparency and compliance with the Code of Conduct Act.
The workshop, which is holding in Kano, was declared open by the Permanent Secretary, Manpower Development, Abbas Bizi, on behalf of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Shehu.
He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his consistent drive toward accountability, professionalism and effective governance in the state.
Bizi noted that directors occupy strategic positions in the public service and play a critical role in shaping ethical leadership, policy implementation and service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
He added that the training reflects government’s commitment to build a transparent, disciplined and responsible workforce.
He also lauded CCB for its sustained efforts in promoting integrity and accountability in public institutions nationwide.
In his keynote address, the CCB Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Bello, represented by the Director of Education and Advocacy Services, Akinola Atolagbe, called on public officers to adhere strictly to the constitutional requirement of asset declaration.
He stressed that asset declaration remains a critical tool for promoting transparency, preventing conflict of interest and strengthening public trust in governance.
According to him, challenges such as misunderstanding of declaration requirements, confidentiality concerns and digital submission difficulties have affected compliance, which the workshop is designed to address.
Dr Bello noted that accurate and timely asset declaration supports Nigeria’s anti-corruption reforms and enhance its credibility in the global community.
He urged directors to lead by example and champion transparency, noting that their decisions in procurement, budgeting and personnel management significantly influence the integrity of public institutions.
In his welcome address, the Director of CCB in Yobe State, Adamu Dandudu said the training is expected to strengthen ethical compliance, enhance accountability and improve overall service delivery across the civil service.
