Wike To Obi: Stop Playing Politics With False Narratives, Be A Good Citizen

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has told the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi to desist from dishing out falsehood narratives all in a bid to score some political points.

Wike stated this during the commissioning of some newly constructed roads by the FCT Administration in Mabuchi District of Abuja on Wednesday.

The Minister who was responding to a derogatory statement made by Obi when he visited an LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, counseled him on how to be a good citizen.

He said unknown to Obi whom he described as a social media president, the FCT Administration has invested heavily in the areas of up grading the state of public schools in the territory, promising that by next week, what the administration had achieved in just two years would be made known to members of the public.

According to Wike: “Some people because of politics, castigate government. For example, I hear one of the social media presidential candidates went to one of the local authority area schools, and was saying that government has abandoned public schools. In particular, his name is Mr. Peter Obi. It is not everything you must play politics.

” Let me say this. Peter Obi, you were governor for eight years in Anambra State. If you had finished all the jobs in eight years, nobody will be talking about developing Anambra by now. In eight years, instead of developing Anambra, you took the money and put it in the bank you have interest, Fidelity Bank. And why did you have problems with your successor? Anambra State had problems. The money was there to develop Anambra Sther but you only prefer profit. You then put the money for the development of Anambra State in the bank you have the largest share. So that profit will be coming, and Anambra will be suffering.

“Mr. Peter Obi, we just came into office two years ago. We have not even stayed four years but you stayed eight good years. Compare two years in office of what we have done in FCT, and compare eight years in office in Anambra. Can you really say you love this country? Can you really say you love Anambra? Certainly not. If I were you, I would be quiet. Why not be quiet? Enough is enough.

The Minister disclosed that the road being commission in Mabuchi district was not initiated through official memo, but from a personal call by a responsible, citizen who draws the attention of the administration to the deplorable condition of the road.” That is what responsible citizen should do, not by going to social media and begin to castigate government for political purposes, ” he said.

The Minister stressed that the identified resident neither lived nor worked on the street, but recognized a public need and took the necessary steps in contacting government for action.

He said, “I was in my office when one of my friends called my attention to the Kez Udezue Street in Mabushi District, which, he said, was terribly bad. I directed the Executive Secretary of FCDA to ascertain the condition of the road, and he came back to me and confirmed that the road was in poor condition. I said okay, look for any contractor that has the capacity to move in and see that we solve that problem”.

In recognition of this exemplary action, the Minister publicly thanked the good resident and announced that the FCT Administration will also honour him for being a good citizen.
