A human rights activist, Hamza Nuhu Dantani, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discontinue charges against Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari and deploy him against rising insecurity in Nigeria.
Dantani argues Kyari’s detention is a loss for national security, citing his exceptional record in combating crime. Kyari led operations that arrested billionaire kidnapper Evans, neutralized the Offa bank robbery gang, and captured Boko Haram commanders.
“Nigeria needs Kyari’s expertise now more than ever,” Dantani says. “His skills and intelligence network are invaluable in tackling banditry, terrorism, and violent crime.”
The activist references Section 174(1)(C) of the Constitution, urging Tinubu to exercise executive discretion. “The nation needs results, not excuses,” he adds.
Kyari, Nigeria’s most decorated police officer, has been detained since 2022. His release could boost anti-insecurity efforts, stakeholders suggest.
