Haaland, Foden Punish Red Devil At Etihad in EPL Super Sunday Showdown

Erling Haaland struck twice after Phil Foden’s opener as Manchester City brushed aside struggling rivals Manchester United in a commanding Premier League victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s men entered the derby under pressure following consecutive league defeats before the international break, but any doubts quickly faded as two of City’s most reliable derby performers delivered once again.

The occasion carried extra emotion with the club paying tribute to lifelong fan and former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton, whose death at 46 was confirmed earlier in the day.

City’s breakthrough came on 18 minutes when the lively Jeremy Doku weaved into the box and picked out Foden, the local hero nodding home the opener. Doku was again the architect after halftime, sliding a clever pass to Haaland, who held off Luke Shaw before lifting a classy finish past Altay Bayindir.

Haaland, who missed a sitter moments later when he hit the post with the goal at his mercy, made amends in the 68th minute. Bursting clear from halfway, the Norwegian powered through to slot home his second and seal the contest.

New signing Gianluigi Donnarumma was handed a debut in goal following his deadline-day arrival from Paris Saint-Germain and justified his selection with a brilliant full-stretch save to deny Bryan Mbeumo.

United, blunt and uninspired in attack, rarely threatened and slipped to 14th with just one win so far this season. City’s emphatic victory, meanwhile, lifts them to eighth and back on track in the title race.
