Karu Senior Magistrate Court in Abuja on Thursday arraigned two men, Aminu Mustapha and Danlami Nuhu, for allegedly stealing a male goat worth N140,000.

The defendants, of different addresses, were charged with joint acts and theft.

They, however, denied committing the offence.

The prosecution counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that the complainant, Saidu Mohammed of Karu abattoir, reported the matter at Karu Police Station on August 14.

“The complainant alleged that he went to his business place located at the above-mentioned address on August 20 and discovered that the defendants conspired and stole his male goat worth N140, 000.

“He alleged that the defendants slaughtered the said goat and sold it in pieces to customers.

“During police investigation, the defendants could not defend themselves,” Adeyanju said.

He said  the offence contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The Senior Magistrate, Haruna Haruna, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until September 8, for hearing. (NAN)
