Teachers Service Commission Visits House C’ttee On Education, Urges Productivity

Chairman of Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission,  Hamisu Mohammad led a delegation on a visit to the Chairman, Bauchi State  House of Assembly Committee on Education, Nasiru Ala.

Mohammad noted that the essence of the visit is to seek more areas of collaboration with the House in order to enhance productivity in the teaching sector.

He expressed deep concern over how some organisations are attempting to hijack the responsibilities of the commission and pleaded for intervention. 

Mohammed appealed to the lawmakers to use their veto powers to resolve this lingering issue as enshrined in the commission’s amended laws of 2009 and 2011 respectively.

He reiterated that the  commission has been empowered to carry out the recruitment of teachers, promotion, demotion, discipline, supervision and welfare of teachers across Bauchi State. 

The chairman  appreciated the commitment and efforts of the Assembly in uplifting the standard of teachers.

Responding, the chairman, House Committee on Education commended the commission for a job well  done. 

Ala, however, commended Governor Bala Mohammad for  supporting the development of education.

ESUI VC Priotises Full Digitalisation Of Operations

Vice Chancellor, Edo State University Iyamho, ESUI, Professor Victor Adetimirin said digitalisation of the school will be the priority of his administration, adding that he will  transform it through functional education that is capable of impacting knowledge in the entire state and Nigeria.

Adetimirin said digitalisation will ensure transparency and make it impossible to manipulate student information system like admission,  timetable, results and clinical records.

The vice chancellor, who stated this during his maiden press briefing, added that the intention is to ensure that the university is one of the best in Nigeria and attain international recognition through research and infrastructural development.

According to him, “the only way to do this, is to ensure that academic programmes  are excellent in context including research that is capable of leading to the transformation of the university”.

To achieve this, there is the need to improve on infrastructure for teaching, learning and encourage  staff to publish the results of their research and journals, as that is one of the ways in which institutions are ranked.

“Digitalisation helps to almost completely eliminate corruption and wastage in terms of collection of fees and other charges”, he emphasized.

While soliciting for staff and students support, he  promised to improve on their welfare, saying he is ready to do anything that would make them happy, improve their mental health, provide  support for them in terms of their studies and scholarship.

Adetimirin thanked Governor Monday Okpevbolo for finding him worthy of the appointment.
