Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission ,EBSIEC, new Chairman, Mr Patrick Enyi has admonished workers to brace up for changes in the manner in which the Commission operates.
Enyi gave the charge Thursday while taking over the reins of the Commission from the Acting Chairman, Chief Nweze Offor, at the commission’s headquarters in Abakaliki.
He said his administration will introduce changes that will enhance the Commission’s efficiency in the delivery of its mandates.
The new chairman said the leadership of the commission will adhere strictly to dictates of the law in repositioning it for greater efficiency.
“We will provide the needed leadership while staff across the Local Government Areas are expected to provide the cooperation.
“You should be steady and punctual to work while applying due diligence to make us succeed”, he said.
He said that to meet the people’s expectations, no effort would be spared in achieving credible Local Government Areas elections in the state.
“We want to make the people’s voices heard and allow them choose their leaders at the grassroots.
“Staff should be innovative and intelligent as we want to avoid unnecessary litigations over our actions”, he said.
Enyi promised to enhance staff welfare to make them perform optimally.
“Excellence will be our watchword as diligent staff would always be rewarded.
“We would organise.series of orientation to make staff attain our desired operational level, he said.
The former acting chairman of the commission, Chief Nweze Offor, congratulated the new helmsman on his assumption of office and pledged to assist him in any way possible.
“Go through the submissions I made and be free to consult me for clarifications.
“I have confidence in the pedigree of the commission’s new members in attaining all set goals”, he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria ,NAN, reports that senior officials of the Commission led the new chairman and members on a familiarisation tour of its facilities.
