From Our Correspondent

Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Do Foundation has partnership other organisations to empower women in Bayelsa State.

The foundation empowered about 200 women with cash after a series of training to enhance their capabilities during a summit held in Yenagoa, with the theme: ‘One Woman for Another Woman, One Girl for Another Girl.’

Founder of the foundation, Dise Harry said the event started off with conversations around how those who are either physically challenged or sexually abused can tackle issues that they are confronted with.

Harry emphasised that the goal of the initiative is to help women realize their potentials and empower them to pursue their desires and dreams.

She stated that “in the work we do, we find out that women need empowerment in order to support themselves, so this is a deliberate attempt to equip and direct them on the way to go about it.

“Some persons think empowerment is just to render financial assistance, but today various speakers have enlightened and showed this women that empowerment is not just money, but building something in them that will last forever. We have showed them how to discover themselves and add value to their lives.”

She commended other stakeholders, NGOs and well meaning Bayelsans for their support towards the advocacy for a better society for the womenfolk.

A philanthropist and founder of Edueredugirls Support Organisation, Dr Elizabeth Jack commended the initiative, noting that she is driven by passion to ensure that women and men are educated and empowered.

She explained that she partnered Do Foundation to secure a future for the people in the society.

“I have personally invested in supporting girls educationally and also those who can acquire skills for themselves. Do Foundation has the kind of vision I have and that is why we are working together to ensure that we impact the larger society. This is the kind of initiative I do, we build them up so as to give them another chance in life,” she said.

Other stakeholders and organisations at the event include the technical adviser to the Bayelsa State governor on girl-child development, chairman of Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Women, Children and Social Development, JUOTA Global Nigeria Ltd, Complete Woman, Margaret Buba Foundation, OmaLife, Collins Cocodia Foundation, and the Association of Women Against Gender based Violence.
