President of the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA), Babajide Akeredolu, has expressed gratitude following Nigeria’s official inclusion in the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) extended the invitation for Nigeria to represent Africa at the global event, a move Akeredolu described as a historic milestone for both the country and the continent in the development of flag football.

“This is a significant step forward for flag football in Nigeria,” he said. “It’s an opportunity for our athletes to showcase their talent, spirit, and resilience on the global stage.”

Akeredolu called on Nigerians to celebrate the announcement and support the national teams as they prepare to compete in Düsseldorf, Germany, from August 13 to 16, 2026.

He confirmed that Nigeria will be fielding both men’s and women’s teams at the tournament, which will feature top national squads from around the world.

“Today, IFAF, in partnership with the NFL and the City of Düsseldorf, officially named Düsseldorf as host of the 2026 Flag Football Championships,” he announced. “We’re proud that Nigeria will be among the nations competing at this prestigious event.”

He added that the tournament marks a defining moment for the sport in Nigeria and represents a new chapter in the country’s global sporting presence.
