As the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season draws closer, the league’s management has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and transparency by summoning Enyimba International FC of Aba over allegations by former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, concerning unpaid wages.

Addressing the matter, the NPFL Chairman emphasized the league’s strict stance against player mistreatment and non-payment of salaries.

“The issue is simple: every club must ensure their players are paid. That’s the bottom line,” he said. “We won’t tolerate any form of injustice to players. Brown Ideye is not just any player—he’s a respected professional and a personal friend. I saw his post, and I wasn’t happy about it.”

The Chairman also disclosed that he has spoken with both parties to better understand the situation.

“I contacted Enyimba, and they shared their side of the story. I also reached out to Brown Ideye, who gave me his own account,” he revealed.

With the matter now in the public domain, the NPFL boss acknowledged the potential damage to the league’s reputation.

“This kind of controversy makes us look disorganized,” he added. “We’ve asked Enyimba to appear before us on Thursday for a proper discussion and resolution.”

Meanwhile, excitement is building as reigning champions Remo Stars prepare to host 2024 title holders Rivers United in Ikenne, in a highly anticipated opening fixture of the new season.

With revitalized enthusiasm, growing fan interest, and the return of several top players to the domestic scene, the 2025/26 NPFL season is set to deliver exciting football and fierce competition among all 20 participating clubs.
