Osun State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr Agbor Obim has advised corps members to embrace discipline, integrity and purposeful service during the mandatory one year service.

Obim gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on the sideline of activities to round off the orientation programme for corps members in Batch A stream 11 at the NYSC camp in Ede, yesterday.

He said the corps members had been exposed to a range of enriching experiences, from drills and lectures to interfaith dialogue, cultural displays and leadership-building exercises.

The coordinator said the three weeks orientation exercise was a journey of self-discovery and national bonding .

Obim urged them to step out with discipline, humility and respect as they proceed to their host communities and places of primary assignment.

“What you began in the camp can become a life-changing journey toward financial independence in  the future and it only belongs to those who are innovative, disciplined and solution-oriented,” he said.

The coordinator emphasised the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme as a vehicle for economic empowerment and self-reliance.

He encouraged corps members to take post-camp training seriously, noting that the skills learnt during the period could become platforms for sustainable livelihoods.

Obim also urged them to be responsible ambassadors of the NYSC by maintaining high standard of discipline and contributing meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

It would be recalled that the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu had visited Ede Orientation Camp on Wednesday, June 28, where he emphasised the need for cultural sensitivity, punctuality and impactful participation of corps members in their host communities.

Nafiu advised corps members to  respect the culture and values of their host communities in order to ensure their safety. (NAN).
