China has expressed support for a joint statement issued by 21 Arab and Islamic countries addressing the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

According to Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, the statement emphasises respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, good-neighborly relations and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Guo noted that Israel’s recent attack on Iran had sharply intensified tensions in the region, drawing serious international concern.

He stressed that the immediate priority should be to cease hostilities and prevent further escalation.

China welcomed the joint statement and commended the involved countries for their efforts to stabilise the situation.

Guo affirmed China’s readiness to engage with all parties and play a constructive role in promoting peace and de-escalation. Xinhua/NAN

…Calls For Calmer Rhetoric

China is calling for more efforts by influential countries to defuse the Iran-Israel conflict, following warnings by U.S President, Donald Trump that Tehran residents should evacuate.

“Pouring oil on fire will not help to ease the situation, but will exacerbate conflicts,” Foreign Office spokesman, Guo Jiakun said in Beijing when asked about Trump’s social media post.

Shortly before leaving the G7 Summit in Canada, Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social: “I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran.”

China is calling on all sides concerned, “especially those countries with particular influence over Israel” to take immediate measures to calm the tense situation, Guo said.

The U.S is Israel’s strongest ally, while Beijing and Tehran have close relations.
