Fear has gripped Chito community and environs, following a fresh attack by heavily armed gunmen on Tse-Mamkaa village.
Relation of one of the victims, Dr Isaac Mamkaa, in a telephone interview with AljazirahNigeria on Sunday in Makurdi, revealed that at about 2:2am on Saturday, about 10 suspected Fulani herdsmen stormed Tse-Mamkaa community in Adzendeshi Council Ward in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and without provocation, beat his family members, injuring some of them. Those who escaped and are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
He explained that the herders also carted away valuable items including clothes, shoes/slippers, food stuffs and even kitchen ingredients such as maggi, salt and grinded flour.
Mamkaa also disclosed that the gunmen injured two of his relations, Timothy and Nathaniel Mamkaa.
“More disturbing was the fact that they promised to return and cause more devastating harm”, Mamkaa told AljazirahNigeria.
He called on the state government and security agencies to take swift and proactive action to avert the impending calamity that might befall the family and entire community as promised by the gunmen.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Udeme Edet said the police has dispatched a patrol team to the affected community, but stated that the area was calm at the time of filling this report.
The PPRO said further investigation showed that the case was not formally reported and directed the complainant to report to the DPO covering the area, as he has already been briefed on the matter.
