Having spent about four decades researching into Traditional, Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, TCAM, with scores of papers published in reputable health journals and peer reviewed, Benjamin Amodu, a 1980 graduate of Industrial Pharmacy from Nigeria’s prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a professor of phytomedicine from the Triune Biblical University, USA, is no doubt a leading advocate for the use of alternative medicine. He spoke with DAVID MAXWELL about his breakthroughs in the field and the wide acceptance of his medications. Excerpts:

According to experts, one major hindrance to the acceptability of alternative medicine which you have devoted about the last four decades of your life to is the lack of rigorous scientific evidence demonstrating its effectiveness and safety, especially compared to conventional medical treatments. What do you have to say about that?

With our 38 years in this field, we have generated a lot of research in alternative medicine.

As I speak to you, we currently have 39 publications in very high impact medical journals. For instance, my work with Professor Emeje on SABMAL, was investigated across the 156 Commonwealth countries to see if it was copied from any previous work, but it was discovered and subsequently certified to be original to us, and this product is domiciled in South Africa. So I don’t think anybody has any reason to hide under the notion that there’s limited work done in this field in terms of research publications for its standardisation.

There are areas like Parkinson’s disease where even the World Health Organisation, WHO, is yet to find a way to go about the treatment, but where we already have publications showing that our combination of about four of our products that can be used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease which our patients are already using with profound results. So I think we are doing very well.

Also, in the area of heart enlargement, we have had cases where patients were to be sent to India for open heart surgery, but they commenced our medication while still awaiting their due dates, and the situation got resolved without any surgery.

Would you then still want to pretend that issues of that nature can be resolved without the patients going under the knife even if it’s half a patient you get? But in my own case, I’ve had over twenty patients whose enlarged hearts returned to normal without surgery and with no issues.

You have repeatedly said you have recorded several breakthroughs in alternative medicine. In what areas have you recorded these breakthroughs?

Just like I said earlier, having spent 38 years in this field of phytomedice research, and with about 39 publications in very high impact medical journals, we truly have recorded several breakthroughs in the field of alternative medicine.

For instance, we now resolve glaucoma and cataract without surgery. In the area of enlarged heart which takes a complicated open heart surgery to resolve clinically, we have resolved several cases without even seeing the patients, because when family members contact us and present the cases to us, we immediately give them our medication we have had cases where patients were to be sent to India for open heart surgery, but they commenced our medication while still awaiting their due dates, and the situation got resolved without any surgery because our drugs go into the arteries and arterioles to clean them up so that the heart is repaired and is returned to its normal size.

Another one is diabetic ulcers on the leg which are resolved by amputation, but which we treat and the wounds heal, thereby eliminating the need for the patients to lose their limbs. We did one at the Garki General Hospital in Abuja here, where within six days, mam’s legs that was to be amputated got healed and the doctor were shocked. We talk about liver cancer with the Alpha-fetoprotein, AFP, going high. In the United Kingdom, UK, they say once it goes high, it never goes down, but when we give patients our medication, we see it being resolved. In the UK and other places, it could not normalise because they have cut part of the liver, thus making it impossible to be resolved.

Then in issues of kidney where doctors where doctors say the kidney is totally bad, so patients should immediately begin dialysis and go for urgent transplant, we have been able to revive the kidneys, plus significant breakthroughs in various cancers. “For instance, a prostate cancer patient with 2,000 PSA has been resolved and brought down to 1.2 which means it has been cured. We have also been able to resolve breast cancers without surgery.

Another area we have made significant breakthrough is hormonal imbalance which many health practitioners do not understand. You will find some women that their menses disappear, or they can even bleed for 30 days. We resolve all those things without the need for surgery; or is it goiter where you have a woman with an enlarged goiter who was booked for surgery, but which case we resolved without the need for her to go under the knife.

Then issues of the lumbar, the spinal cord, L1, L2 which doctors insist patients must go through surgery, but we resolve such cases of spondylosis where the vertebrae and discs in the lower back, otherwise known as the lumbar spine, gradually deteriorate due to age and wear and tear, but which we resolve without any form of surgery and patients get completely healed with the pain, stiffness and other symptoms vanishing for good.

So you can now see that we have been able to resolve several issues that modern medicine says it’s not possible to resolve, but which we have made possible without any complicated procedures and without any safety issues so far.

How would you describe the acceptance of your medications amongst patients?

Even though we may not have had the support from the government, but the Nigerian people are not waiting for the government to tell them to either accept our medications or not. Since many patients we have treated with our products and have been cured of the ailments keep talking about and announcing for others to know, we haven’t had a short supply of patients who either come to us themselves or through family members and other caregivers.

Our medications are well accepted, both at home here in Nigeria and abroad too.

Does that mean you have been treating patients outside Nigeria?

Yes we have, and we’ve been sending our medicines not only to countries within the African continent, but also to countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, America and even Oceania.

We have been sending our herbal medicines to Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa and many other African countries, and even to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United Kingdom, USA, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Canada and virtually everywhere around the world without any issues. We have been sending them to these places via DHL and we haven’t had any issues whatsoever.

So if the USA, UK, Canada and all these other countries can accept our treatment, plus those at home here in Nigeria, then I can confidently say that my products are well recognised and accepted across the world.
