Assembly Tasks Sokoto Govt On Media Coverage In Rural Areas

Date:

Sokoto State House of Assembly has urged the state government to  improve the coverage of the  state-owned media houses beyond the metropolitan areas.

This followed a motion moved by Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, APC – Sabon Birni South, and seconded by Awaisu Aliyu ,PDP – Gada West, during Thursday’s plenary,

Ibrahim identified poor signals of the state-owned television and radio stations in many parts of the state as the factor responsible for inaccessibility of information and announcement of government programmes.

“This has significantly deprived the population of access to important government announcements, as well as information about government policies and programs”, he decried.

Ibrahim emphasised the indispensable role of media in information dissemination, public enlightenment, and education.

He stressed the urgent need to invest in the infrastructure and technology to improve state-wide reach by the media outfits.

“Strengthening and investing in the necessary infrastructure to amplify radio signals is a strategic step toward ensuring equitable access to information for all citizens, regardless of their geographical location”,  Ibrahim said..

Supporting the motion, Alhaji Abdullahi Zakari ,APC – Rabah, said improving the state-owned media’s coverage would enhance information delivery and educate the citizens on the government’s engagements and commitment in the state

The motion was unanimously adopted after it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Alhaji Tukur Bala.
