From HASSAN JIRGI, Maiduguri

Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed  Timta has confirmed that suspected Boko Haram insurgents  killed 12 persons along Kirawa Road and Bokko Ghide community in Pulka district in Gwoza Local Government Area of   Borno State.

Confirming the incident to newsmen on Saturday, the emir said two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, were ambushed and killed along Kirawa Road on Friday, while  10 civilians who went to a nearby bush to fetch firewood were killed on Saturday with two others sustaining serious injuries.

Timta, who decried the spate of killings in recent times by Boko Haram in Gwoza  and other parts of the community, said the renewed attacks, if not checked, would sabotage the efforts of the state government and the military in their ongoing reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

“We  buried the victims today according to their religious rites, while the injured ones were evacuated to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital for treatment.

“Let me use this opportunity to pray to Allah to grant Aljanatul Firdaus to the souls of the departed and quick recovery to the injured ones,” the monarch said.

According to him, government and the  military have been doing their best to tackle the  attacks by insurgents, but more efforts are needed  in terms of technological warfare and sophisticated equipment to deal with these terrorists in our region.

“I can confirm to you that these renewed attacks would demoralise our resilient people who have started warming up for this year’s cropping season, as many would be scared to go to their farms,” the emir lamented.

AljazirahNigeria recalls that the recent attacks came hours after Governor Babagana Zulum appealed to the military to launch aggressive operations to eliminate the remaining insurgents from the region.

The governor made the appeal while receiving a high level federal government delegation led by the minister of defence to the state.
