In a first of its kind demonstration of compassion and solidarity, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye travelled to Maiduguri to commiserate with family of late Match Commissioner, Mohammed Sani.
Sani died from injuries sustained in an auto crash on his way from Jos where he commissioned an NPFL match.
During the visit to the family, Elegbeleye was accompanied by Alhaji Babagana Kalil, Executive Board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Alhaji Ibrahim Mustapha, the Chairman of NPFL side, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
The NPFL Chairman, in condoling the family, noted that the late Sani was a respected figure in the nation’s football given his years of experience as a football player and later as an administrator.
Elegbeleye made a donation of N2m to the family on behalf of the NPFL and the NFF Board where he is the 2nd Vice President.
“This donation serves as a gesture of support to the grieving family during this difficult period”,
“Sani was Known for his dedication to football and commitment to fair officiating, and his untimely death has left a significant void in the Nigerian football community”, Elegbeleye said to the family members.
He further described the late Sani as a humble and passionate football personality whose impact will not be forgotten.
“He was a good man, full of passion for the game of football,” Elegbeleye said. “
Alhaji Kalli also spoke during the condolence visit, noting that Sani’s legacy would be remembered for years to come.
The family of the late match commissioner expressed appreciation to both the NPFL, and the NFF for their kind gesture and for traveling to Maiduguri to show their support.
