As the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme continues in its drive to provide access to quality and affordable healthcare for residents, traditional rulers have also joined in the call for citizens to purchase health insurance for vulnerable indigenes.
The Ohworode of Olomu, Uhurie Osadjere 11, and the Ovie of Ogor Kingdom, Igere 1, commended the sponsor of the initiative, Olorogun Ejiro Dumasi, for his philanthropy during the flag-off of the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission at their palaces in Olomu, Ughelli South Local Government Area, and Otogor in Ughelli North respectively, stating that more Urhobo sons and daughters of means should emulate this act of kindness by sponsoring more indigents in Urhobo kingdom and Delta State at large.
The event saw the registration of 100 indigent persons into the State Contributory Health Scheme, with 50 persons registered from Olomu and Ogor kingdoms, sponsored by Dumasi, a Lagos-based indigene of Ughelli.
Addressing the people during the ceremony, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr Isaac Akpoveta said the state government had subsidised healthcare for citizens and paid over N7 billion so far since the inception of the scheme, noting that health is wealth, and with the payment of N7,000, each citizen can enjoy affordable and quality healthcare for a year.
Dr. Akpoveta commended the sponsor for enriching the lives of his people, saying it was a demonstration of his belief in the principle of Collective and Shared Responsibility, which the ‘MORE’ agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration encapsulates.
He urged Deltans of means, at home and in the diaspora, to imbibe the same principle by keying into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the DSCHC by registering the vulnerable and indigents in their locality, while also reiterating the commitment of the commission to enrolling more Deltans.
The Ohworode of Olomu, and the Ovie of Ogor, with the latter represented by the President-General of Oviri-Ogor community, Chief Monday Otobrise, as well as the Administrative Secretary of the Olomu Palace, Chief Simon Ebrobota, were full of praises for their son who took it upon himself to improve the health indices of the people.
They commended the state government for the initiative and called on other citizens to emulate the gesture to make life more bearable for citizens in the harsh economy.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the sponsor and promised to make use of the scheme.
