Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, COPDEM, Osun State Chapter, has admonished well meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to always assist the needy, as government cannot do it alone.
COPDEM Chairman, Oguntola Joshua, made this appeal while speaking with newsmen on Sunday at the distribution of food items to Muslims and Christians as part of the ongoing the Ramadan and Lenten period.
The colourful and well attended programme which commenced with the distribution of food items was aimed at supporting the people during this period.
According to the COPDEM chairman, “We should not leave everything for government to do, as we have to support them in our own little way to alleviate the suffering of the people, hence the distribution of food items.
“We are calling on philanthropists and well meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the people who are in need of our support.
“We have our executives in the 30 local government areas of Osun State, and COPDEM’s goal is to protect our democracy from corrupt politicians and leaders that are contesting for their own selfish interest.”
State executives that accompanied the chairman include Popoola Yeeken, Mr Adedigba Moses and Mr Oladuni Ebenezer among others.
Beneficiaries, Mrs Fatimoh Adeleke and Pastor Micheal Abegunde said the food items was a timely one and appealed to other groups to emulate them.
