From Abdullahi Idris, Dutse
Jigawa State governor, Umar Namadi has affirmed that the North West region possesses the required human capital and material resources to surmount its economic challenges and unlock its full potentials.
The governor declared this when he received the board and management of the North-West Development Commission on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Dutse
Commending the leadership of the newly established commission, the governor pledged the support of Jigawa State and the North West Governors Forum in ensuring its success.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between the commission and state governments to drive meaningful development in the region.
“The North West region has the highest poverty rate in Nigeria, but this should not be the case. We have the resources, both human and material, to change this narrative.
“I urge you to have a clear vision, remain committed and focus on setting key priorities.
“Our people deserve better, and with strategic planning and implementation, we can transform the region into an economic powerhouse,” the governor stated.
He advised the commission to take a strategic approach by studying the comparative advantages of each state and align them with state development agenda, adding that it must focus on sustainable infrastructure, education, security and economic growth rather than short-term relief programmes.
Chairman of the board of the commission, Lawal Abdullahi acknowledged the critical role of governors in the establishment of the commission and assured Governor Namadi of the commission’s commitment to work closely with state governments.
He noted that Jigawa’s strong agricultural potential makes it a key partner in the commission’s efforts to boost agro-allied industries and infrastructural development across the region.
Abdullahi stated that the commission would serve as an intervention agency to address key challenges in the North West region, including security concerns, out-of-school children, drug addiction and economic empowerment.
He called for Namadi’s guidance and leadership in rallying support from other governors to ensure the commission’s success.
