From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued three female students of J.S Tarka University, Makurdi, who were kidnapped on February 26.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sewuese Anene, for the Commissioner of Police, Steven Yabanet, the students were abducted within the school premises by unknown persons.
Yabanet said upon receiving the report, a team of police officers were swiftly deployed to investigate the incident.
The commissioner explained that following continuous trail of the kidnappers, the police were able to secure the release of the victims on March 3 around 9:34pm.
He said the rescued students are currently receiving medical attention at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
The police boss commended the officers involved in the operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other security agencies in the state for their efforts in the rescue operation, pledging his commitment to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
It would be recalled that this development came after a series of kidnapping incidents in the state, including the abduction of over 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, who were later rescued.
