House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions Tuesday summoned the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammed Dingyadi, over his failure to constitute the Board of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF.
The summon came as a result of a petition by a non-governmental organisation, Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, over the minister’s failure to constitute a Board for NSITF despite the fact that President Bola Tinubu had already appointed the managing director months ago.
The committee also summoned the Managing Director of NSITF, Faleye Mayomi, to appear before it on the strength of the petition against his agency over suspected violation of projects clearance regulations.
In another petition, the Advancement of Social Justice and Economic Development Initiative, ASJEDI, wants NSITF to explain their inactions which they claimed were at variance with their mandate.
The committee believes that “lack of a board in the agency is a huge aberration as its absence has given way to a wide range of illegalities in the running of its affairs.”
Therefore, the Chairman of the committee, Mike Etaba directed the minister to appear in person before his panel in order to answer questions regarding the petitions.
