Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a destructive attack on Kwapre and surrounding villages in Yadul District in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Sources told the media yesterday that the attack started at about 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 25, and raged into the early hours of yesterday, leaving churches, schools, houses and business premises destroyed and valuable assets looted.
Village Head of Kwapre, Mr Joel Kulaha, and his colleague in Abalis Jawaja told newsmen that the terrorists descended on the communities with ruthless efficiency, burning buildings and carting off valuables.
However, according to Kula, no live was lost in this latest assault, as residents who were forewarned of the attack fled their homes ahead of time.
āWe escaped with our lives, but everything we own is gone,ā Kulaha lamented.
People with knowledge of the incident said soldiers on permanent duty in nearby Garaha town responded to the attack after a while, engaging the terrorists and forcing them to retreat to their hideouts.
They said, however, that the intervention came too late to prevent the widespread destruction that had already left the villages in ruins.
Kwapre and surrounding settlements have often been victims of attacks since the beginning of Boko Haram insurgency.
It is calculated that this latest attack would be the 10th.
