While world leaders continue to call for an end to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that he would give up presidency for ‘peace’ in his country.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv yesterday, the Ukrainian leader was asked if he would be willing to “give up” being president of Ukraine in exchange for peace.
The 47-year-old said: “Yes, I am happy, if it is for the peace of Ukraine.
“If you need me to leave this chair, I am ready to do that, and I also can exchange it for NATO membership for Ukraine”.
Zelensky’s comments is coming after the US President, Donald Trump called him a “dictator without elections” few days ago.
Ukrainian legislation banned elections during martial law, which has been in place since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
Many casualties have been recorded as a result of the war between the neighbouring nations.
