Islamic University in Uganda, IUIU, Alumni Association, Sokoto State chapter has celebrated Senator Aliyu Wamakko for his commitment to education during his eight years tenure as governor.
A statement by the Information Officer of the association, Abdullahi Ghani said 241 first degree graduates including 12 that earned PhDs benefited from Wamakko’s scholarship programme.
The event, which took place in Sokoto, highlighted Senator Wamakko’s transformative impact on education through his generous scholarship initiatives.
The co-chairmen of the association, representing the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for his visionary leadership and selfless investment in their academic pursuit, which they described as a catalyst for their success.
Out of the 250 students sponsored by Senator Wamakko to study at the Islamic University in Uganda, 241 have successfully completed their programmes. Among them, 12 have earned PhDs, while 61 others are currently pursuing doctoral studies in various institutions within and outside Nigeria.
The beneficiaries praised Wamakko for his exemplary wisdom and commitment to empower the future generation, noting that his support has not only transformed their academic lives, but also inspired them to achieve greater heights.
The association also appealed to the Sokoto State government, under Governor Ahmad Aliyu, to redeploy some of their members currently teaching in primary schools to tertiary institutions within the state.
The association noted that their expertise would be better utilised in higher education, contributing more significantly to the state’s development.
