The Delta State House of Assembly ( DTHA) on Friday approved the request by the state governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori seeking an upward review of the electricity tariff of the Asaba Independent power plant ( AIPP)
The Governor’s request was contained in a letter he forwarded to the state lawmakers which was read at the plenary by the speaker, Mr Emomotimi Guwor including others.
In the letter, the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor said that it was important to give the governor’s letter urgent attention it deserved, adding that when approved, it would be the implementation of a new tariff regime for the Asaba IPP which, is an eight point five mega watt plant operated by Messre Bastanchury Power Solutions. The governor, in the letter, explained that the upward review of the electricity tarriff from N31,74 per kilo watts to N75:00 became necessary due to the current economic realities in the Country. This, the governor noted, would enable the company sustain its services to the state adding that the state government through the ministry of Energy, recommended a reviewed amount of N63per kilo watts, inclusive of VAT , hence the approval of the house was been sought for.

The majority leader of the House, Mr Emeka Nwaobi who moved the motion to receive the letter, in his debate explained that it was no longer news that the economic situation informed the decision by the state governor, and therefore urged the House to give approval to the request, and was supported by the member representing Bomadi Constitutency, Mr Oboro preyor, the House in a unanimous voice vote, approved the request of the Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori’.. Meanwhile, the House has adopted the recommendations and lifted the suspension of Mr Matthew Omonade, member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency.The majority leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi who was the chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee on the investigation of the suspended member, in his report noted that the Committee after thorough investigation, recommended that Mr Omonade be warned against future Occurrence and carefully study the rules of the House, knowing that laws were universal and can be domesticated in any state or country without anyone being accused of plagiarism. The Committee further recommended that the Suspension of Mr Matthew Omonade be lifted having apologized and remorseful of his act of disrespect to both the state governor, the Speaker and the entire House of Assembly. In their various submissions, Mr Oboro preyor and Austine Uroye supported and adopted the recommendations of the Committee
The Speaker,Mr Guwor Emomotimi after unanimous voice vote, lifted the suspension of Mr Matthew Omonade, stressing that in the business of lawmaking, laws are universal adding that it can be domesticated anywhere.
