Oyo Traditional Ruler Charged To Court Over Forgery

Alajaawa of Ajaawa in Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oba Thompson  Oyetunji was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrate Court for forgery.

However, the Chairman of Ogo Oluwa Local Government, Adeboye Ojo told newsmen that the management of the council is on the top of the case.

Oba Oyetunji, in charge number MI/145C/2025, was arraigned on two count charges of felony and forgery.

According to count one, Oyetunji and others now at large, on June 11, 2020 at Ajaawa town in Ogbomoso, conspired with one another to commit felony to with forgery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, volume 11, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2020.

In count two, the monarch and others at large, on the same date, time and place unlawfully forged the signature of  Prince Azeez  Oyebunmi on a letter titled ‘Withdrawal from the Vacant Stool of Alajaawa Race,’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 465 and punishable under Section 467 of the Criminal Code , cap 38, volume 11, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2020.

He pleaded not guilty when  his plea was taken before Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi.

Counsel to the accused, Barrister O.K Animashaun urged the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms. 

The prosecutor, N Ojei did not oppose the bail application. 

He told the court that he would call three witnesses, which include Prince Oyebunmi, Prince Gideon Adeboye Oyekunle and the Investigating Police Officer, IPO to prove his case.

Barrister Oloyede, who stood for Princes Oyebunmi and Oyekunle did not oppose the bail application. 

Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi therefore admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum. 

The magistrate adjourned the case to July 22 for hearing.
