Igbo people residing overseas, particularly in Europe and America, will today, January 25 hold an emergency general meeting of the World Igbo Congress, WIC.
According to WIC’s Vice Chairman, Basil Onwukwe, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr Festus Okere directed him (Onwukwe) to summon the emergency meeting of Igbo leaders in Diaspora on Saturday at noon USA Eastern time and 7pm Alaigbo time.
The planning committee of the meeting said it is time to convene the meeting which they disclosed its main agenda to include the prolonged incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the insecurity pervading the South-East and other parts of Igboland.
Onwukwe said “This meeting could not have come at a better time when Nigeria’s leadership is unimaginable inept. When politicians cannot support the right to life of our youths in public.
“The militarization of our homeland and the deliberate plot to deprive us security is a present danger. The abductions and locking up or kill on sight raid is the height of betrayal and an irreconcilable threat to national unity.
“This meeting will enable us fashion a diaspora solution for Ndigbo and form a strong alliance to solve the pending issues, including Kanu’s unlawful incarceration.”
