Government of Niger Republic has officially reintegrated 124 former members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

These include 81 ex-combatants and several minors into the society.

A Lake Chad Basin counter terrorism and insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama,  made this known in a post on his X handle, on Sunday.

According to Makama, the announcement about the reintegration of 124 former Boko Haram members was made on Thursday by the Nigerien Press Agency, ANP.

The security expert stated that the reintegration ceremony, marking the sixth wave of repentant Boko Haram members, took place in Goudoumaria, Diffa Region, in the southeastern part of the country, noting that the event was attended by the Regional Governor, Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma and other dignitaries.

“Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bagadoma emphasised that the deradicalization and reintegration programme is part of a proactive policy by the Nigerien government.

“The initiative aims to mitigate the social impacts of armed conflicts, while fostering inclusive socio-economic development nationwide,” Makama wrote.
