Canvas Institute, a U.S/Nigeria-based organization dedicated to empowering youth and women through art, culture, and civic engagement, is partnering with Nigeria’s National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) to promote cultural exchange, artistic innovation, and youth development.
The collaboration was formalized by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a pivotal milestone in fostering global cultural enrichment and social impact.
Mr. Bobby Digi Olisa, Chief Executive Officer of the Canvas Institute, said “This partnership underscores our commitment to harnessing the power of culture and creativity to inspire global change and build resilient communities.
“Together with NCAC, we aim to empower young people and celebrate the unifying force of the arts on a global stage.”
Also speaking, Obi Asika, Director General of NCAC, added, “The NCAC is proud to collaborate with the Canvas Institute to deepen international cultural ties and provide global opportunities for youth to excel in the arts and culture sector. This partnership represents a step forward in creating a vibrant and inclusive cultural future.”
A statement by Dr. Dennis Olofu, Media Officer, NCAC, explained that the transformative partnership will particularly focus on Global Cultural Heritage Promotion, “which Celebrates the diverse cultural traditions of Nigeria and the U.S. through international art exhibitions, festivals, and cultural showcases to promote a deeper understanding of global heritage.”
According to him the partnership also includes Capacity Building and Skills Development, “aimed at Providing young creatives with training, mentorship from industry leaders, and access to international networks to thrive in the global creative economy.”
The partnership also aims to enhance Artistic Innovation and Collaboration which will essentially develope joint projects such as global music collaborations, visual arts exchanges, and theater productions that bridge traditional and contemporary art forms.
It also plans Cultural Tourism Development to project cultural tourism through curated international tours, cross-cultural festivals, and collaborations with global tourism stakeholders.
Part of the planned project include “Community Empowerment Through Sports and Creativity” using sports and creative arts to inspire social change, engage youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and build bridges across cultures.
