The Indigenous people of FCT Youth under the auspices of Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths and Empowerment Organisation AOIYEO have alleged that the so-called leaders from the north were the reason behind marginalization of the natives of FCT.
This was made available in a release signed by the president of the group, Commandant David Isaac.
According to him, “The northern leaders have failed the indigenous people of FCT at different occasions since 1976, they have subjected us into incessant marginalization, they have always turned their backs on any moves that can ameliorate the plight of indigenous people of FCT for better.”
Isaac continued that despite the numerical strengths of northerners in the Senate and House of Representatives, they have never used that to support our course rather they come to us only during the elections and disappeared immediately after the elections, they have never seemed to see the reason why we, Abuja Original Inhabitants as part of Arewa Consultative Forum ACF but it was convenient for them right to tell us to work against the government that gave us what we have been clamouring for in the last 50 years within a year of coming on board.
“It is a big shame to the northern leaders who can not see the reason why Abuja indigene should be appointed as a Minister of federal republic of Nigeria and at the same time a member of Federal Executive Council FEC, so now they want us to be fighting the government that has given us the best gifts in last 50 years, apart from making one of us a minister, we have been made mandate secretary, created youth secretariat with an indigene as first mandate secretary all this within first year of government we are being asked to be fighting, please where are the northern leaders in the past five decades, the leadership the whole world believes that indigenous people are part of them, the people we claimed to have shared the same culture, tradition and heritage with, rather they derived joy in the incessant used and dumped,” Isaac added.
Northern leaders have failed the indigenous people of FCT woefully in the sense that the original inhabitants of Abuja have nothing to show for the supports they have been given them, because successful presidents from the north have never done little of what this government has done for the natives of capital city of Nigeria, “So, nobody should tell us to work against government that has been working to reverse the marginalization that our people have done to us.”
Meanwhile the north needs to stop playing politics of religion anytime they are loosing out in the scheme of things in the country, “To make it clear we are comfortable with the present administration in FCT, they should stop calling someone ’aruna’ unbeliever, they should know that we don’t play politics of religion in FCT.” Isaac said
He added that the FCT natives have not closed their doors for their redemption if they wish to retrace their steps but they should stop seeing FCT indigenes as tools to achieve their selfish interests because they have come of age with ability to decide what was good for them or not.
