Kaduna Assembly Receives Bill To Improve Economy

Date:

FROM RAHILA ABDULLAHI, KADUNA

Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday presented a bill to establish the tourism, museum, landscape park and recreational service board.

The bill, when passed into law, will work towards generating revenue, as well as create employment for the people of the state.

Sponsor of the bill and member representing Jaba Constituency, Henry Marah, in an interview with newsmen, said the world generates most of its revenue through tourism.

Henry said “it is important to appreciate the state government’s effort in restoring peace, this is part of what encouraged us to come up with this bill to boost tourism and improve the economy of the state.

“Countries like Dubai, Qatar and America generate most of their revenues through tourism, but unfortunately for us in Kaduna State, we don’t have a tourism board.

“I am happy that the bill has scaled second reading and has been referred to the Committee on Business Innovation, Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency, KADIPA, and Judiciary for in-depth study.

“Abuja for instance has many recreational facilities and they make good amount of money which adds to their revenue,” Marah observed.

Speaking on the tax reform bill, Marah said if the north had developed strategies on various ways to generate revenue for themselves, they would not be crying to the federal government for fear of being short-changed.
