Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has congratulated the Tynewly elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.
This was contained in a statement signed by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi.
Yahaya was elected President of the NUJ at the just-concluded National Triennial Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
In his congratulatory message, the speaker urged the new NUJ president to let his leadership inspire professionalism, patriotism and dedication among journalists in Nigeria.
According to him, “The NUJ, as the umbrella body of journalists, is a critical stakeholder in nation-building, especially on how Nigeria’s story is told to the world,” he said.
The speaker added that the NUJ should be at the forefront of the campaign against fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
He wished the new national leadership of the union a successful tenure.
