Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to handover all the facilities at Nazari Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko Local Government Area to leaders of Fulani herdsmen.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, and made available to newsmen Monday.
The governor stated that the handover became necessary, as the multi-billion naira project is ready for occupation and usage.
He said his administration, in collaboration with the federal government, had invested billions of naira in the construction of the reserve which is the second-largest livestock development centre in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Buni reassured of government’s readiness to support the grazing reserve for the socio-economic growth and development of livestock production in the state.
“The construction of Nazari Livestock Development Centre is a deliberate policy by this administration to settle headers in one place, to concentrate on their grazing business and enrol their children in school,” the statement said.
Facilities at the grazing reserve include milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, primary school for nomadic children and feed mill centre.
Others are artificial insemination centre, breed improvement centre, warehouses and aqua-culture ponds, among others, all geared towards boosting livestock production in the state.
