Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has pledged the support of her ministry to the West African Examination Council, WAEC, in achieving a common goal for every child in the state.

Ezewu stated this in Asaba while declaring open, the 2024 WAEC Council State Committee meeting.

Represented by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr Daniel Akiri, the commissioner said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to building a state that works for all, especially in the education sector through innovative programmes and policies geared towards effective and efficient educational services for greater productivity.

She noted that the council meeting was an annual forum that avails stakeholders the opportunity to review the conduct of the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, for candidates in the state.

Ezewu explained that the terms and references of the meeting was to advise the national committee on any matter on which advice may be sought and to make recommendations were necessary for improved and sustainable development.

The commissioner urged the council to continue in its collaboration with the ministry in the selection and appointment of credible supervisors for the supervision of its examination, as well as ensure that only eligible candidates are allowed to register for WASSCE.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Examinations, Mrs Clementina Ojumah commended the council for the smooth conduct and quick release of results, stressing that its continued synergy with the ministry over the years had yielded good results.

Mrs Ojumah, who also appreciated the professionalism and enthusiasm of all education stakeholders in ensuring quality education for the benefit of children, stated that it is imperative that they deliberate collaboratively and explore avenues to improve the level of performance of students.

She observed that examination malpractice had taken a new dimension, adding that the state government would not fold its arms and allow the ugly trend to thrive in the state.
