Founder and Chief Executive of Mairiga Charity Foundation, Hajiya Fatima Mairiga has paid fines to free four inmates at Nigeria Correctional Center in Potiskum, Yobe State.
Speaking to newsmen in Damaturu after a visit to the correctional centre, Hajiya Mairiga stated that the foundation settled fines for some inmates who had been incarcerated for three years.
She also provided transportation fare to the released inmates, as well as reunited them with their families.
The founder donated blankets, food items, soft drinks, hygiene products and some clothing to the released inmates, whom she advised to avoid any form of crime and embrace good morals and conduct as they enjoy their freedom.
In his response, the officer-in-charge of the correctional centre commended the foundation for the efforts to free some inmates and provide essential food items to them.
According to him, the released inmates will motivate others to become better citizens.
