The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed has assured its stakeholders that, the Scheme would continue to collaborate with Stakeholders to better the impact of NYSC Community Development Service.
NYSC boss, who was represented by the Director of Ventures Management, Prince Mohammed Momoh said this during the NYSC Community Development Service Stakeholders’ Workshop in Abuja.
Workshop with the theme: “Building Strategic Partnership for Impactful Development”, is believed to be timely as the impact of the Community Development Service in the NYSC cannot be over-emphasized.
The DG said that the Scheme has recorded more successes through the activities of Community Development Service, adding that the meeting is timely and it’s an avenue to strengthen the existing relationship with the Scheme’s Stakeholders as well as improve efficiency and innovative ideas to drive meaningful change.
According to him, the National Youth Service Corps has remained an enduring catalyst for national development in various spheres through, among other programs, the active involvement of Corps members in community development activities, especially at the grassroots.
“Using the platform of the CDS, they initiate projects that have a direct bearing on the progress of the host communities and mobilize resources in collaboration with community members to execute them either individually or as groups.
“Without doubt, the Corps members represent a productive pool of human resources and great assets that facilitate the success of policies aimed at improving the lives of the people. This has been proven through their successful participation in several important national programs, such as the conduct of elections; the National Population and Housing Census; tree planting campaign; awareness creation on HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health; and the SDGs Advocacy, amongst others.“
He enumerated some of the collaborations with the Scheme’s stakeholders such as; the National Population Commission, among others which birthed the tree planting awareness campaign, HIV/AIDS awareness, Reproductive Health, and SDGs advocacy as success stories.
In her welcome address, the Director, of Community Development Service and Special Projects, Hajiya Zainab Isah, said the need to streamline functions and activities for greater efficiency necessitated the workshop.
She thanked the Director General for his immense support to the Community Development Service Department which has led to the successful execution of all programmes in the department.
