Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in Edo State governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo winner of the guber election with 291,667 votes from 18 local government areas, LGAs, in the state.
Returning Officer, RO, for the election and the Vice-Chancellor, FUT Minna, Niger State, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, also announced that Okpebholo’s closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came second with 247,274 votes.
According to the result tally announced by Kuta, Olumide Akpata of Labour Party, LP, came third with a total of 22,763 votes.
The RO while declaring the result said that “Monday Okpebholo, having fulfilled the requirements of the law and got the highest votes is the winner and is returned elected”.
PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, alleged that more than 20 polling units across the state were affected by various discrepancies.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that the gubernatorial election in Edo State at the weekend which featured 17 candidates, consisting of 16 males and one female is one of the off-cycle polls in 2024.
