Unusual Withdrawal: Benue Judicial Commission Summons Senator, Others

Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the Income and Expenditure of Benue State headed by Justice Taiwo Taiwo has ordered Senator Titus Zam and a former cashier, Festus Andoor to appear before it to explain the alleged unusual withdrawal of money in a single day amounting to over N16 million.

Also to appear before the commission are a former Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom in the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kenneth Achabo.

According to a document from the commission, Achabo, alongside Moses Nder, Isaiah Ipevnor and Elvis Attah had collected various sums of money running into millions of naira from the Bureau for self.

Justice Taiwo gave the order in Makurdi when the current Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dennis Akura, gave evidence before the commission.

The members discovered from records that a particular cashier at the Bureau had withdrawn about N10 million 15 times in one day amounting to about N150 million.

Taiwo also revealed that over N4 billion was transferred from the Bureau to the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in a single day.
