GPE Set To Upgrade 45 Public Schools In Adamawa

Date:

Global Partnership for Education, GPE, II in Adamawa State is set to upgrade 45 additional public schools for the development of education.

Its Coordinator, Dr Michael Medugu, disclosed this at the engagement meeting with stakeholders on project implementation activities at the local government level in Yola, yesterday.

He said GPE had successfully completed the 50 selected schools in 2023 and 45 additional schools were selected in hard to reach areas and underserved communities across the state.

“These schools were selected based on the criteria given to us by the World Bank, we have done 50 schools in year one and we are now going for 45 more schools for year two.

“In the environment, where you find more than 70 learners per teacher, it needs expansion of extra classrooms to accommodate them with toilets, water and furniture as well,” he said.

Medugu stressed the need for communities to take ownership of the projects by being serious through the training and to ensure that everyone is carried along.

“As you are going out for this training, I want you to take it seriously because it is not a one man business, it is community work.

“All the gate-kippers; traditional rulers, education secretaries, faith based organisations, Parents Teacher Association, PTA, Civil Society Organimsations and Schools Based Management Committees within the community must be involved.

Mr Abubakar Goni, Focal Person for GPE, appreciated the contributions of the World Bank for the projects, aimed at ensuring better education for all, especially in rural communities.

According to him, the projects came at the right time when the state government’s priority is education.

He urged stakeholders to justify the confidence reposed on them to achieve the objectives of the project and ensure that communities take  ownership of the projects. (NAN)
