United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Malick Fall has reaffirmed commitment to support the IP project, aimed at unlocking the potential of young people across Nigeria.

Fall made the commitment at the World Intellectual Property Organisation, WIPO, IP Salaye Demo Day held in Abuja.

He noted that the initiative focuses on empowering youths through various programmes and interventions, enhancing their skills and promoting their active participation in the society.

According to him, by investing in youth empowerment, the project encourages innovation and creativity, essential for driving progress and growth in various sectors.

He commended the director of WIPO, Nigeria Office for his incredible leadership and support for the project, while reaffirming UN families commitment to support the project that unlocks the potentials of young people across the country.

The Director of WIPO, Nigeria Office, Oluwatobiloba Moody said the organisation had trained more than 28 corps members on WIPO IP Salaye, raising awareness about the importance of intellectual property as a tool for growth and development.

“Our initiative, IP Shalaye, aims to build the capacity of young people to utilise IP effectively. While it is designed specifically for corps members, our organisation has broader plans to engage young people across various sectors.

“We intend to scale IP Salaye to reach more states in Nigeria, ensuring that corps members nationwide can benefit from this initiative. By empowering young people with knowledge about IP, we can foster innovation, creativity and economic growth.

“Our approach includes targeted programmes for different groups, including university students and children. However, IP Salaye is specifically tailored for corps members, providing them with valuable skills and insights to leverage IP for their benefit.

Ayo Jennifer, a corps member, expressed enthusiasm about the insights gained from the programme.

Also, another corps member shared his key takeaways from the programme where he learnt how to harness intellectual property to protect his ideas and leverage them to launch a successful business.

He noted that the programme is impactful on his understanding of intellectual property and its potential to drive business growth and community development.
